Swearing in ceremony of MEC Commissioners


In accordance with Section 6(2) of the Electoral Commission Act no. 11 of 1998 as amended, the Malawi Electoral Commission is advising all stakeholders that swearing in of the newly appointed Commissioners will take place at the Capital Hotel from 2pm on Friday, June 17, 2016.

The ceremony will be presided by the Hon Chief Justice His Lordship Andrew Nyirenda, Sc and all delegates wishing to witness the occasion are advised to be seated by 1.30pm.

After the swearing in, the Commissioners will in subsequently undergo an induction process  which will include:

  • Training for newly appointed Commissioners organized by Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC (ECF SADC) in Harare from 22nd to 24th June, 2016.
  • In-house induction on MEC departmental operations and activities, procedures and policies
  • Orientation on Public Procurement
  • Training in Corporate Governance
  • Orientation on  Public Finance Management Act and Public Audit Act 
  • Building Resources in Democracy Governance and Elections (BRIDGE) training covering Introduction to Elections Module.

The dates and venues for these activities will be communicated in due course.


The Commission is also in touch with the Ministry of Finance regarding conduct of by-elections in Mchinji West Constituency and stakeholders will be informed when the situation is finalized.
