MEC HOSTS ICT EXPERT FROM SOUTH KOREA
MEC will from 12th to the 15th March 2017 host the Director of The Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB), Mr Gwang L Park and his aide Ms S Kim.
Mr Park and his colleague will be coming in to conduct a feasibility study with the main agenda of assessing the technology MEC uses for voter registration, verification and results management.
His feasibility study will also look at how A-WEB can partner with MEC in providing technical and administrative assistance to establish an information infrastructure in the fields of development and distribution of computerized voting devices, to develop a vote tabulation system and an election information system.
The feasibility study will also allow A-WEB to ascertain which enhancement would be beneficial for refining the expertise and performance of election officials so that officials have the necessary skills and information required for smooth operation and management of electoral processes.
During the visit MEC Chairperson, Justice Dr Jane Ansah, SC will have an opportunity to discuss with him the needs of MEC and how A-WEB and MEC can work together to enhance role of ICT in electoral processes.
The visit was prompted when A-WEB held an Election Visitor Program (EVP) from 16 to 22February for the 2017 General Elections and Referendum on 19th February 2017 in Ecuador where the MEC chairperson, Commissioner Yahaya M’madi and Acting Chief Elections Officer Ms Thandie Nkovole were part of the participants.
A-WEB is an organization located in Songdo, Incheon, Republic of South Korea, and the secretariat is composed of more than 30 experts in election and related fields.
