INVITATION TO APPLY FOR ACCREDITATION TO CONDUCT CIVIC AND VOTER EDUCATION FOR 2019 TRIPARTITE ELECTIONS
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is a body created under Section 75 of the Republican Constitution to conduct elections in Malawi. MEC has the “mandate to exercise such functions in relation to elections as are conferred upon by the Constitution of Malawi” (Section 76 of the Constitution). Among its numerous duties and functions, MEC is legally entitled “to promote public awareness of electoral matters through the media and other appropriate and effective means and to conduct civic and voter education on such matters” Section 8 (1) (j) of the Electoral Commission Act.
MEC is, therefore, calling upon interested Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) i.e Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) only)) to apply for accreditation to conduct civic and voter education (CVE) in preparation for the 2019 Tripartite Elections.

In addition, the organisations should be prepared to sign an agreement with MEC to abide by the Code of Conduct for accredited CSOs and work with District Civic and Voter Education Coordinating Committees (DC&VECC).

Duly completed original forms should be submitted to MEC not later than 21st April, 2017. Submissions after the deadline will not be accepted.
Organisations that have experience in or deal with issues of gender, women, the youth and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
