Wellingtone Katantha joined the MEC in April 2002 and is currently serving in the position of Electoral Services Manager since April 2014. He has held other positions in the Commission including Acting Director of Electoral Services between April 2021 and August 2022, Regional Elections Manager for the North and then Central region between April 2002 and March 2014. Before joining the Commission, he worked with Malawi College of Health Sciences as Campus Administrative Officer.
He is an accomplished election administration practitioner and manager having actively participated in the organisation and implementation for General Elections in Malawi in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019 as well as the Fresh Presidential Election in 2020. He is an internationally accredited trainer in Democracy, Governance and Elections and in Conflict Management. Other Professional Work Assignments he has been involved in include: Team member of the Joint ECONEC-ECF SADC Peer Support and Learning Mission to the 2023 General Election in Sierra Leone; Long-Term Election Observation Mission under African Union to Republic of Sierra Leone General Elections.
He holds Master in Electoral Policy and Administration acquired in June, 2024 from Scuola Superiore Sant’ Anna Pisa, Italy, Master of Arts in Political Science obtained in August, 2011 from the University of Malawi, Bachelor of Arts (Public Administration) Degree (with Credit) obtained in April, 1999 offered by University of Malawi. Other qualifications include Diploma in Accounting, Postgraduate Certificate in Finance for Non-Finance Managers, Professional Development Certificate in African Leadership in ICT, Certificate in Management of Democratic Elections in Africa, Budgeting and Budgetary Control, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Conflict Analysis and Mediation Course and Conflict Prevention
