CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR ACCREDITATION TO OBSERVE THE REGISTRATION OF VOTERS FOR 2025 GENERAL ELECTION

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), in accordance with Section 102—106 of the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Elections Act is pleased to announce a call for applications for accreditation of both local and international observers for the 2025 General Election.

Who Can Apply?

Any international and local non-governmental organization, foreign government, and foreign and local personalities including Representatives from international organizations, intergovernmental organizations, diplomatic missions, and foreign non-governmental organisations, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, religious institutions, academic institutions, and other interested groups and individuals within Malawi, may apply to the Commission for accreditation to observe the 2025 General Election.

Eligibility

Applicants must be apolitical and demonstrate a commitment to impartiality, transparency, and adherence to democratic principles and the existing electoral laws in Malawi

Supporting Documents

Submit relevant documentation, including organizational profile, accreditation details, observer credentials, and the intended number of observers to be deployed and all the other necessary documents listed in the form

Code of Conduct

All accredited election observers shall be required to subscribe to be bound by a code of conduct governing observers issued by the Commission under the Act.

 

Application Deadline

Application should be submitted by 30th September 2024. 

How to Apply

Applicants must indicate whether their nominated observers will be stationed at specific registration centres throughout the registration period in those centres or if they will serve as roving observers across the country.

Observers assigned to a particular registration center will be accredited on a short-term basis, covering both the registration and voter inspection phases. Such applications, along with the list of observers and their designated centres, should be submitted through the respective Malawi Electoral Commission district offices.
